Spectrophotometer Color Measurement

"Yes, dogs see colors. Not the same way as us though."

Color measurement enables us to measure colors as they are seen by us. How much error in paint mixing can be allowed, before you’ll notice the difference in color between two sections of your car? As you may know, professional photographers obsess over the temperatures of various light sources and how to make them look nice and balanced in photographs. Or maybe you’ve dressed up, checked everything in the mirror and then noticed, hours later, that in the party your clothes suddenly do not match anymore.

The truth is that the human eye isn’t very good at seeing color. We aren’t saying you should get a spectrophotometer to be absolutely sure about your clothing, but if you’re a dressmaker, things could be different. Here’s what color measurements can do for you:

  • You’ll be able to “see” in much higher detail the differences in colors
  • Learn about more than just colors: current brightness is another important factor in the subjectivity of colors
  • Control the quality of textiles and raw cotton
  • Make sure the orange juice factory meets regulations
  • Do all of the above and MUCH more in remote, even hostile environments if need be

Our Color Measurement Solutions

Hunterlab supplies our color measurement equipment. Their mission to do more than just make money is apparent in their product quality. We offer shipping, installation, calibration and maintenance services in Scandinavia and Baltic regions for the following types of color measurement spectrophotometers and colorimeters:

  • Bench-top – for classic measurements from samples. This is the best option for quality control.
  • Portable – for handheld measurements out in the field
  • On-line – for getting continuous measurement info straight from your production line

Bench-top models

Benchtop Spectrophotometers

The only sample measurement device you’ll ever need! This device will handle large and small objects, be they liquids, solids, powders or flakes. Smooth and textured surfaces pose no problems as long as we choose the proper bench-top model for your needs. Our experts will be happy to assist you in your choice.

Portable models

Portable Spectrophotometers

When duty calls outside of your fully decked lab, grab our portable model on your way out the door and you’re good! If you were a fan of taking products from production line and walking back to the lab for tests, we have bad news for you. Our portable models are laboratory level accurate, with dual-beam technology normally found only in bench-top level equipment. One hand operation with one touch. Measurements are taken in a few seconds.

On-line models

On-Line Spectrophotometers

Take quality control to the next level! These On-Line Spectrophotometers make real time color measurements of your product without unwanted contact, interrupts or intrusions. You can detect out-of-spec color ranges real time, find the culprit that caused to problem and thus improve your product line permanently.

About Color Measurement

Did you know the cone cells in your eyes don’t actually detect colors at all? All cone cells do is send different signals into your brain depending on the amount of energy they absorb from light hitting them.

The simplest color meters work like this: They look at things through a red, green and blue lens and sense the colors with a mechanical sensor. Handheld devices can measure only about 20 wavelengths at a time. This is all well and good for casual measurements where the differences are apparent. However, this is not enough for laboratory environments and highly accurate testing.

When you want to detect tiny changes in color, you need more color resolution. In other words, color depth. This may sound like a bizarre subject, so let us help. Here’s a picture in 32 bit depth, 8 bit depth and 2 bit depth. Pictures from Wikipedia.

Nice! 32bit depth.

Meh. 8 bit depth.

Eww. 2 bit depth. 4 colors used!
